LINDA COPPOLA
ARTIST IN RESIDENCE
Art has been a huge part of my life since childhood. Growing up, my mother had a kiln and often explored her creativity, so art came naturally to me. As the oldest child in a large family, art helped me to escape to the solitude of self-expression. Drawing and playing with clay was part of my creative exploration, and this creativity became a common denominator in my life.
I was fortunate to have a teacher in high school that encouraged my abilities. I’ve always been drawn to ethnic art, hieroglyphics and playing with line, texture and color. Some of my influences are Picasso, Miro and Dali.
I’ve worn many “hats”, and my life and relationships are continual fodder for my art.
As an adult I created a handmade jewelry business called Mixed Emotions where I designed, made and marketed my line of jewelry, composed of various media. My jewelry was sold at local art stores such as Wild Things and The Roycroft. I also participated in shows such as the Allentown Art Show and the Keenan Center Christmas Show.
Although I have not had a formal art education, I have accumulated a wealth of self-directed skill and experience, in addition to developing a strong sense of style. I’ve taken numerous individual classes and worked with other area artists.
Media & Techqhniques
Acrylic paint on canvas
Ink or Modeling Paste on Canvas or Panel
Original Collage Components used within Paintings
I love symbols and you will find many repeating symbols and themes hidden throughout my work – look for words, purple doors, embryos and human figures.
I’ve created a technique using words abstracted as a sort of skeleton inside my paintings…hidden meanings, personal symbolism which inspire curiosity and intrigue. My work has many layers of meaning and are inspired by both my inner and outer life. Nature is also an inspiration and theme found throughout my work.
Art is my inner world where I can retreat – express emotions – be adventurous – play! I love to play and explore and let my art reveal itself to me naturally through intuition
My work allows me to express myself like a journal – to share and connect with others.
